So let's talk about this view. Also about an 11th century church and BABY PIGEONS.

This is the view that greeted us when we walked into our accomodation for the week. Yeah. Not half bad.
And in the other direction:

This is looking up a perfectly innocent street:

Look at that scenery! You're just meandering along, staring at the bay,

And you turn around and it's DOING IT BEHIND YOU, TOO:

It's egregious. Dr J says he's never met anyone so offended by scenery as I, but I ask you: how is that not excessive?
Also excessive: most of the buildings. Two photos back up the page was the Villa Kerylos, built by a Greek chap with too much leisure and money in the 19th century. I would quite like to have seen inside it, but never got around to going.

Look at this wedding-cake thing. Just. What.

This was a common architectural feature along the coast - horizontal pebble strikes. Interesting!
But now, the architectural feature you've all been waiting for: a church with some 11th century bits left! Now functioning as a church hall, mind you. The 20th century tower you'll see in the pictures below is on the main church behind the old church.

Weird double-apse feature. I can't remember what we decided the second one was - presbytery, maybe. We did go inside, but were not allowed to take photos because of an exhibition of fine textile arts.
The south-west corner:

And look, there's that scenery, at it again.
And for those who bore with the romanesque architecture in search of the cute, I bring you... BABY PIGEONS. They hatched on our second day there, I think. Poor birds were in grave danger of growing up thinking their dad was a broom handle.

Pretty much as soon as they could hold their heads up they started squabbling and/or preening each other. Of course they kept falling asleep in the middle, very cute.

Just so you know, one could come back another day and find it STILL DOING THE SCENERY THING AT NIGHT:
