BUT I had a revelation which solves the Great Bed Dilemma. I shall get a king single, wot is small enough not to take up my whole room, and yet big enough to fit two people comfortably (provided they like each other, granted).

my gentleman friend also had a king single. It was perfectly satisfactorary.
