YARN YARN YARN YARN
Feb. 5th, 2010 06:17 pmI have:
* Nice varigated cotton yarn for basic washcloths
* Blue and gold cotton yarn for fluer-de-lis washcloth
* A LOT OF ACRYLIC YARN for no better reason than "it was on sale"
* Nice new bamboo needles
* Patterns for ALL KINDS OF WASHCLOTHS. Plain ones! Funny ones! Ones with a moose on them!
I also have:
* Spaghetti, which was supposed to be housemate's boy's lunch today but he forgot it, so I thieved it. It has olives in it. Weird.
And I have:
* Ticket to Fire and Ice at Hush tonight
* And thus, an excuse to deck out in corset etc
* Every intention of taking a ball of yarn and needles with me. BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY KINK AND FETISH NIGHT IS A GOOD NIGHT TO KNIT IN THE PUB.

I am getting bored of knitting stretches of long wonky pink scarf, and then re-starting because I fluff it up. As I can now competently knit and purl, but clearly not for more than 20cm at a time, I wish to make a Thing.
You recommended facecloths. I have found A pattern of which I like the looks.
Important question: doesn't yarn just go soggy when you wet it? Is there some secret to buying yarn so it doesn't just turn into a damp mess when used?
ETA: HELL YES. I NEED THE ROYAL SYMBOL OF FRANCE ON MY FACECLOTH.

Important knitting question!
May. 25th, 2009 10:04 pmSo, I'm knitting away. Scarf is on the left-hand needle, and I'm sitting here carefully knitting, during the course of which, the scarf sidles off onto the right-hand needle.
I get to the end of the row. What am I supposed to do now?
1. Pick up the needle with the scarf on it, move it into my left hand, put the empty needle in my right, and start knitting again.
2. Pick up the empty left-hand needle and knit the next row backwards until the scarf is on the left hand needle again.
I had assumed that I was supposed to do 2, but it was rather too hard so I opted for 1. Poking at knittinghelp.com suggests that English and Continental knitting are distinguished by which needle the knitting starts on - this leads me to believe you're supposed to always start the row with the knitting on the left for English and right for Continental?
