Moar fun with clothes

So this is what I was wearing today. I really need to work on getting a better a) backdrop and b) lighting set-up for these photos.
Slightly better photo, slightly worse pose:

Pants - Target Hot Options
Shirt - Barkins outlet
Blazer - Events
Shell & bead necklace - gift, a very long time ago
Not pictured - cherry-red docs (which are giving me strained ankles all of a sudden. Why, docs, why?
It took me a ridiculous amount of time to get dressed this morning: I rediscovered this blazer hanging around in my wardrobe, and decided it needed to be used. It's part of a suit - the blazer fits perfectly, but the skirt has always been too big (foolish purchase before I started my first Real Job). Even if I had a use for suits these days, I wouldn't be wearing it. But it's a waste of an excellent blazer. Lately assorted blogs have been talking about how to effectively separate suit items, and I've been fretting about the fact that I can't think of anything to wear with my few brown items except red. So today I was determined to match a brown jacket with, well, anything. I discovered that this brown, at least, does not play well with grey; and that all my red tops have the wrong neckline for wearing under this suit.
Also, I hear there's a war over whether soft collars go in or out. Rumour has it that collar-out is out-dated? I don't care. I am firmly on the side of collar-out.

The necklace really makes this outfit. I also really wanted to wear makeup with it - I have a nice rusty lipstick which would have worked well, I think, and brown-gold eyeshadow. However, I'm still convinced that my resolution not to wear makeup to work is a good one (chances that someone would assume I was doing my 'face' to cover nerves about lecturing: high), so I did not.
In non-clothes news I bought a mouse that works properly, and a four-port USB hub. I was seriously tempted to buy either a netbook or an e-reader, but I left it alone for now.
