[livejournal.com profile] sea_of_tethys on the beauty of the ordinary:

I mean, we are all put under all this pressure to be special or unusual in some way, but by definition most of us have to be ordinary - so why beat yourself up over it? It doesn't make any sense. I think in a way the pressure to be special robs us of our inherent dignity as human beings - if we are all created equal then we don't need to be special. And it's tremendously liberating to be able to accept yourself as ordinary.

You're different, special and an extraordinary individual... just like everybody else ;)

A quote from Chuck Palahniuk (& from Fight Club):

“You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake. You are the same decaying organic matter as everyone else, and we are all part of the same compost pile.”

Oh I don't know. I find it rather liberating. If you're not the "beautiful and unique snowflake", then you don't have to live up to an impossible standard, and are therefore free to be...yourself! It's a bit of a paradox really. Paradoxes (paradice?) are good for cutting one's thinking teeth on.
