Ok ok internet! I am having to make PLANS! And, uh, typically, I've left these PLANS until the day before I have to meet with my supervisor to discuss said PLANS.

ANYWAY. It occurs to me that although my thesis is not *due* until December 2011, it would probably be a good idea to be aware of when the application deadlines are for universities overseas. Because maybe I could submit this one a bit early, esp. if I were going to England (the Bocera tells me I could probably get into an English uni just on the strength of my honours marks), and go *straight* into the next degree, thus avoiding a pesky funding gap.

PEOPLE AT UK UNIVERSITIES: when does one apply? Does one have to start at the beginning of the academic year, and when is that exactly?

PEOPLE AT US AND/OR CANADIAN UNIVERSITIES: ditto?

Anything from September through to January for both British and North American universities. Each university has slightly separate application date deadlines, sometimes even different departments do.

... holy shit that's SOON. *is mildly freaked out* I applied in October 2009 to Sydney Uni and am STUDYING by March 2010! Is all the paperwork in Britain done in stone engravings or something?

I think I want to switch back to Old English, and hoooly crap, I'd have to think of ANOTHER thesis topic BEFORE GETTING EVEN HALFWAY THROUGH THIS ONE.

I think for north american unis the earliest application date you'd get is mid-december, but Britain is earlier than that, or at least is for undergrad, I dunno if they take grad applications at the same time. If you're applying to Oxbridge, seriously, check the dates right now, because they are always like two months before everyone else because they probably do use stone tablets or they have to feed them into the oracle or something.

Hmmm, I think they do sometimes, but you have to have shit hot Latin to do that, because in order to get into the phD program you have to pass the MA Latin exam (which is not easy), and so if you go straight into the PhD program you have to pass the MA Latin exam on entry. TBH I wouldn't recommend trying it, my guess is they wouldn't let you straight into the PhD program.

Investigation suggests to me that they would probably consider my MPhil and Aus honours to be the "equivalent of a Toronto Masters". So then I'd just need to pass this terrifying Latin exam of which we all speak. Logic says to me that I need to get some textbooks on Medieval Latin, pronto. And then I just... need to be really, really awesome. First year Latin here isn't supposed to start you on translating shit, but I could do it on my ownsome...
