right... having gone away to photoshop and discovered that it thinks this is 1.5 inches wide... now i'm no expert on imperial measurements, but something tells me that the computer is confused...

Had you originally uploaded the original size, then re-uploaded the smaller version under the same name? Hard-refresh (it's ctrl+F5 in IE, not sure about FF) and the smaller one should show, if that's the case...

at length i thought to clearing my cache, and lo! all is well :D

A hard-refresh would've done pretty much the same thing - it loads the page from the server, not from your cache ^_^
