an evening with emily...
Jan. 28th, 2006 10:28 pmwill someone remind me, in a weeks time, that it will be time i read a pratchett book?
mmkay... Aus. day Joel and I worked the clowns, he hated it and never wants to do it again, which is just as weel because his sales manner is a disaster. i wouldn't empoly him. he spent the afternoon lying down dozing... i get pretty bored, but there are some things you just don't do, and sleep is one of them.
There are, however, infinitely better ways to spend australia day, and next year i intend to indulge in them. the UYF cricket match, for one thing.
worked yesterday as well, it was dead as a doornail until Billy turned up at nine to close down early, whereupon the bloody customers would not go away for half an hour!
parents and joel have gone down to Kim and Andy's for the weekend, so i've got the house to myself. Chris is coming over to amuse me tomorrow, though. spent the day lazing around, i dug out my box of LM Mongomery books and was faced with a most difficult decision- Anne, or Emily? Emily won this time. She really ought to have been my favorite all along, but as a kid i hated reading first person for some reason.
In between, i got domestic and washed the sheets, but forgot to get them off the line until just now. fortunately, it's not a damp night.
Rode to Tanilba to buy condensed milk. The more time i spend driving, the more i love my bike. Although with that bastard of a headwind all the way home, a car might have been useful i suppose. It took me twenty minutes to ride up, and forty back. I then made airsick slice, and burnt the caramel. I put plenty of chocolate on it, though, that makes everything better.
then proceeded to make myself a chicken salad for dinner, which wasn't half bad, if i do say so myself. I dedided to drink the wine aunty sue gave me with it... which was all well and good, except that my low alcohol tolerance levels have been proved again, i was actually dizzy by halfway through the glass!
watched My Best Friend's Wedding tonight. Was most amusing.
*sigh* and now i suppose i have to do the dishes. ho hum.

Date: 2006-01-30 10:41 am (UTC)well, my dad's in the RAAF, as ground crew. he loves flying but gets ridiculously airsick. on one of his squadron trips to somewhere or other, he got offered a back seat in one of the fighters, instead of the cargo plane. naturally, he took it. and as usual he was ill for most of the trip.
at the half-way stop, one of those little raaf bases out in the middle of WA that are maintained by one man and his wife, they got afternoon tea. The wife in question served them up great big slabs of choc caramel slice. Dad, who'd been on solid ground for a whole twenty minutes and was feeling perfectly ok now, ate one, or knowing him, probably two. Then, as the story goes, he turned around to look at his plane, and became instantly airsick without leaving the ground.
thus, airsick slice is a great favorite in our family :D
