i'm sitting here with the dragon lamp on the dressing table- I don't know if i described it, it's from a little Thai stall in Broadway, a black wooden frame with black rice paper walls, and a dragon shape on each side in red rice paper. very pretty. I have the silver candle in its dragon candlestick on the desk, and the dragon incense burner smoking away. It's mesmerising, watching the smoke curl out of the back of the cross and around the candle and then in front of the computer. I found incense chris gave me ages back, that's much nicer than the ones mum got given.

exactly one year ago, at about this time, we'd got into the church in Mildura and were avidly hunting through hymn books and making Richard play whatever we found. Weird thought. I missed my brother's birthday last year. I suppose i remembered it was his birthday, but i had to sit down and calculate which day of the trip it fell on.

been to the beach. very tired. I was physically sore to begin with, since yesterday dad and i went out on the surf skis and now my shoulder muscles ache like hell. I was hoping a good pummelling at the beach this evening would fix that, but sadly no. I had lots of fun, though :D. Birubi was pretty good, since it curls around to face southt, the nor-east wind that was making every other beach around terrible was coming from the shore there. I got lots of little-kiddy rides into the shore on the orange board, and i kept trying to get out to the back sets, but the board doesn't have a strap, so i had to hang on to it instead of just diving into waves and dragging it. Upshot was i kept getting dragged back to shore.

we spent a bit over three hours out there, and i successfully did not get sunburnt. I really need to either buy smaller boardshorts, ones which will actually stay up, or buy some decent bikini bottoms and forget the boardies. Boardies are cheaper.

Why is it that the less fabric goes into an item of clothing, the more it costs?

Also, have you ever thought about this: skinny people are subsidising fat people's clothing costs. Provided the fat people aren't so fat they shop at special stores, that is. Otherwise, a size eight something- say a Tshirt- costs the same as a size sixteen in the same item.
