So that was Christmas
Dec. 25th, 2005 06:44 pmand i'm exhausted. Feeling a bit brighter now, after a cup of tea, but still. ugh. it's been too hot lately to sleep properly, and its starting to show.
church this morning wasn't worth bothering with in any way. We did have four people i'd never seen before, but that was made up for by the utter lack of members of our congregation.
i ended up co-ordinating morning tea afterwards, then we raced back here, ate some muffins, changed my earrings, got the glitter off my face (which had got there when i tried to rescue the fallen star and put it back onto the stable), grabbed the rest of the stuff and bolted back out again. Dad and Joel, meanwhile, were at the gym. Needless to say, they had it all to themselves.
Managed to get smoked oysters on my nice shirt. fortunately dad wasn't there yet, so he was able to bring me new clothes and i did not stink all day.
We only ate about half of the food. People took home doggy bags, so that wasn't too bad, but the woolmers refused to take more than one or two bottles of drink. We now have one esky, one mini fridge and then some worth of bottles, cans, ect.
my fridge makes SO MUCH NOISE! I have no idea why they couldn't find a quiet one- apparently this was they quietest you could get. Tockie's is smaller and i've spent enough time sitting around saying nothing in her room to know it doesn't make so much as a whisper. My fridge also is not a proper fridge, its more of a powered esky, and it has no shelves. wierd, i tell you.
so in conclusion, by the time i got back here i was buggered and not in the mood for presents at all. however, joel was. He is responsible for my now being the proud owner of O the Places You'll Go, but Dr Seuss. I am VERY happy. He thinks I'm nuts, but after I read it to mum and dad they've become converts too, and really wish they'd got it for me last year before i left home.
Santa lost my present. I got up and there was stuff in the bag- a dragon calendar and a plant pot, but mum was trying to figure out all morning where the other present was. I think she must've been minding it for Santa. We searched the church, peered in garbage bins, ect. Turns out it was under the tree. Santa must've got confused. It's plastic wine glasses, very useful or i wouldn't have had anything to drink my pink stuff out of. They have gold stars on them.
I also now have a printer of mine own, a very cute little machine, but dad forgot to buy a USB cable, so it doesn't actually go yet. I have however concientiously read the installation guide.
Mum is very impressed with her photo set. She's taken it off to show Sue. I feel very proud of myself- I've never been able to make things before.
I'm working with Shaye on New Years Eve, at the Osbournes fair at Nelson Bay, doing the clowns. It's apparently a twelve to fourteen hour shift, at only ten an hour cash in hand, but that's still a decent amount of money and i need it. Gives me something to do, as well, I suspect I'd've been sitting around on my bum feeling silly.
I think Mum was a bit disapointed with the lack of takers for lunch... we were told we were getting a fellow called Robert, but he never showed. We might have had eighteen people, including us and the woolmers, and we had food for about thirty. Still, the little old ladies and the Greaveses were so grateful I think it's always worth the bother. And Don too seemed tickled, he told mum she reminds him of Dina, which is about the biggest compliment you can get from Don.
Don's funny... he makes a habit of trying to speak french to me. It drove Tahn beserk, because he couldn't make head or tail of it. Shaye could follow along, it being only really basic stuff, but it was worth the effort of putting the words together just to see Tahn get annoyed about it.
Tahn didn't get called out all day yesterday, or today. I reckon that's astonishing, given the ridiculous heat we had yesterday.
I got a few good photos of Shaye that will be fun to play with. Hope she doesn't mind. Don has the same camera as me and he deliberately erased my photos of him!
