Prospective Housemate tells me that there's a pub called the Holy Grail in the suburb I'm staying in.

... I really want to go to this pub now. But it would be kinda sad to go all by myself. Unless I had my copy of the Anonymous Quest with me, which I don't, in which case it would be kinda sad and extra nerdy.

I'd offer to accompany you except for the me being underage thing. You could always go alone anyway and just hope to pick up some other extra-nerdy kinda-sad loners who went there alone because they didn't have their copies of the Anonymous Quest with them and didn't know anyone else to take who wasn't underage.

Yeah.

See, this is what I get for stalking minors... *sighs heavily*

It's better than being imprisoned for stalking minors. Think about it.

Should I ever happen to be in Canberra I definitely will want to go to this pub...

I can't imagine why you WOULD be in Canberra. Can't imagine why anyone is in Canberra, unless, like me, they work for the government. BUT if you were in Canberra, we could pack up our metaphorical Gawains and Yvains and take them carousing.

Well, it's possible I might visit Australia one day, and then I might feel highly compelled to visit Canberra in order to visit said pub.

Things that are not going to happen in the foreseeable future, but maybe one day...

You should go to ANZAMEMS one day, and pass it off as a Scholarly Trip ;)

I have heard about this pub!

Not that I can remember what, nor have I been, BUT!

I'd actually forgotten all about it.

I believe there are two of this pub! One in Civic and one in Kingston.

*eyes you* We could select one of these fine establishments and arrange to, by alarming co-incidence, grace its premises at the same time. If you were so inclined.

I might be inclined to buy Mordred a beverage. Naturally, due to his reality impairment, you'd have to help him out there.

I might just be so inclined!

Alas, I have to drive places (thank you, bus system, for being le suck as far as Jerra is concerned), so no beverages, but I'm all for alarming co-incidences!

Possibly not tonight, as I'm falling down asleep and won't be shiny company, but I'm free Friday nights and on the weekends.

I'm currently very unshiny company myself. Have been asleep most of the day and feel... grainy. Hopefully this will be gone by next weekend, though. Friday? Select your suburb of pub! (I am in Kingston, but I believe bus access to Civic is quite simple from here, so I'm easy.)

Bah, thanks RL *kicks it* Okay, Friday looks iffy, Saturday?

And I'm in Jerra, but I know Civic slightly better - I think - so, likewise easy! Maybe leaning towards Civic, if only because I know where to park.

Time?

Saturday sounds shiny :), and Civic is nicely accessible on ze bus for me, so that is also shiny. Er, time. I don't know, what time suits you? I have at this stage no commitments at all :D

NEITHER DO I! And I don't know what time these things open, or anything *is innocent and new at pub-shaped-things*

Well, by the look of their website (http://www.outincanberra.com.au/holygrailcivic/), they're a ... bar and restaurant type thing. And on Saturdays, they open at 3pm. So we must select a time after that. *is wise* And determine if we are bar-ing or restuaranting or both.

I know nothing of Canberra! Or of pubs! I do not know what Saturday night in a Canberra pub is liable to be like.. *perplexed* It could be noisy and intimidating! It could be quiet! Housemate S's friends said something about Saturdays being quiet in the city centre, but that sounds... strange and unlikely.

Why do I get the feeling we are encountering the serious problems inherent in any endeavour involving two geeks attempting to participate in mainstream social activities ?

Well, I'm not drinking, so possibly restuaranting? and then maybe bar-ing, at least for you, because of the Holy Grail thing. So, 6:30?

I know...very little of Canberra, really! (at least, in this context) And nothing of pubs!

Why do I get the feeling we are encountering the serious problems inherent in any endeavour involving two geeks attempting to participate in mainstream social activities ?

....Because we really, really are. *facepalms*

Giggle. Eating from the Holy Grail has more canon resonance than drinking from it, if I recall my Quest lore correctly...

I drink at exactly one pub! The townie, in Newtown, which is where no one goes for a night out, and is thus excellent for geeky drinking and talking.

Excellent. As long as we're agreed on our mutual ineptitude...

(Snort. I realised the other day that between Lucy, you, Housemate S, and the new grad coming in on Thurs with whom I am to meet up, I already have more of an active social life in Canberra than at home. *facepalm*)

Oh, man, it's been years since I actually read anything Arthurian (thank you, Medusa, for taking over my brain) so it's probable that you are correct!

Oooh, nice. Well, I remember that this weekend is a long weekend, where most people vanish up to the coast, so if the Holy Grail is busy, i shall be surprised.

(....*grins and pats*)

OH ASHIE I JUST REALISED. I do not have your email address *or* your mobile number, and neither of us really knows what the other looks like (unless I strike this particular pose from the icon, I suppose). And I, for one, am *very good* at getting lost and/or not finding people.

Every userpic on this page bar mine currently features a woman. I find this oddly intimidating, even though I'm gay and women are my collective best friend.

However, when I come down, I'll totally go with you. I'll even bring a nerdy book of my own (or borrow one from you if mine don't stand up to the challenge) and we can be lonely in our own little book worlds on opposite sides of the bar, until one of us plucks up the courage to go and speak to the other one. And then we can teach everyone else in the pub what happens when you strike up conversations with Randoms in pubs - MASSIVE REJECTION! (I volunteer for the role of Rejected Nerd Boy Number One.)

It will be FUN! :)

Not really. Though there was this queerarse chick who pretty much professed her undying love for my brain recently. I think that should have been a sign.
