So when I was in Sydney the other day I went shopping for suits. At Portmans, which I could've done at home anyway. And while I was at Portmans, I picked up their cheapest suit jacket, which was black, and the pants which went with it. Whereupon I realised that a) the pants are exactly the same as the pants I'm wearing waitressing, only twice as expensive and b) the jacket doesn't look nearly as good on me as this old one of my mum's that I have at home. So then I went and bought buttons in order to put new buttons on my awesome be-shoulder-padded suit jacket.
Today, I told mum this. And she dug around in the wardrobe and produced the skirt she'd bought to go with the jacket. It is everything I want in a skirt: it is just-short-of-ankle-length, has a split up the thigh to just above the knee, it is black, made of some kind of wool blend, and looks absolutely stunning on me. Wolla, I have a suit, and the total expenditure is twenty dollars for buttons. Did I mention how this skirt is everything I have ever wanted in a skirt?
Now, I still have remarkable-hundred dollars from my grandmother. I think I can go buy myself one of the silly probably-going-to-go-out-of-fashion-in-two-months suits from Portmans and not have to worry about buying matching pants and being able to replace pieces, because I already have a suit, and it is damn awesome. (Although the jacket is very slightly too big for me. What with my boobs being about a third the size of my mother's.) I also inherited a couple of very pretty tops which are too big for me now but when I inexplicably go up a size they'll be just right.
