If K and I had any power over the universe, we would, in the last fifteen minutes, have cursed Russell Davies to eternal torture, including but not limited to:

A) Inexplicable nocturnal weeping
B) FLEAS.
C) An eternal shortage of flea-powder (see B).
D) A personal thundercloud
E) Athlete's Foot
F) MYSTERIOUS ANTS IN HIS BED
G) Dreams full of Stephen Moffit monsters.

HORRIBLE, I tell you.

ETA: K has a rant too, which is under a spoiler cut and includes the reason why we're both annoyed. (Well, one of the reasons.) Apparently our Mentalnet is such that we now make nigh-identical posts at exactly the same time.

Further additions to the List of Plagues, according to K:

H) Constant lateness.
I) Socks disappearing then reappearing six weeks later, covered in fluff and mysterious stains.
J) Hair loss.
K) CRAPPY PERSONAL ASSISTANTS.

Did I mention HORRIBLE?

You cruel, sadistic bitches! I wouldn't wish such a fate upon my worst enemy.

I don't watch Dr Who. I'm not much of a TV person period, actually. But I'll pretend to understand what you're on about so that I can offer my sympathies and whole-hearted agreement. :P

Fate I) is one I've had rather too much experience with. Stupid college laundries. It's not a fate I would wish upon my worst enemy, either, but it's just PERFECT for Russell Davies. *glares*

Dr Who is the ONLY tv I watch... when I watch it. I've missed big chunks of this season and all of last. Sigh.

What makes my Chris H and I feel better about this season is that in 2010 Stephen Moffat will be taking over as Executive Producer. (A Stephen Moffat run Doctor Who... almost drool worthy)

So, we only have to sit through five more episodes of Russel T. Davies running things until then. (next year it is just a few Dr. Who specials rather than a regular season)

I know... It was terribly tragic. But RTD is gone now; the fellow who will be writing from now on is the one who wrote "John Smith" and "Blink", and the Torchwood episode "Capt Jack Harkness", which were all fantastic episodes.

I feel your pain.

I think the entire fandom feels our pain (except that being in australia we feel it somewhat later than everyone else). SIGH.

I have mixed feelings about Moffat. He's the reason I refused to WATCH Dr Who for ages- first episode I tried to watch being the second half of the Empty Child. *shudder*

Ah... you have now come to the End, too, as it were. How'd you find the week-long wait between Stolen Earth and Journey's End? (I was going rather nuts for that week back in July.)

If you and K(ylie?) are so interested, there's a blog I discovered, called "Behind the Sofa - The Collaborative Doctor Who Blog," which makes for some interesting reading. (linky (http://www.behindthesofa.org.uk/journeys_end/) to Journey's End episode reviews). There are several reviews of this episode, and they end up covering various reactions to Donna's end. It's rather enlightening, I found.

And really you must catch up on the whole of the fourth season -- through it Donna became my favourite companion, bar none. And then, you must watch the third season, as there are various interesting episodes in that, particularly the freaky, but excellent Blink, by none other than Moffat.

PS I have yet to be able to watch Journey's End (and I've done so now about three times, total) without bawling at the end.

PPS Following the watching of this episode, I was really rather down for the next week.

Er, I was too busy having angst about OTHER things to worry about Dr Who last week. I in fact didn't remember until I was buying Dr Who DVDS in HMV yesterday that it was Dr Who Day.

Huh, cool. K's been reading all of [livejournal.com profile] samstoryteller's post-Journey's End fic and rants, but SOME OF US HAVE WORK TO DO. Evil second-year child that she is.

I do intend to catch up- starting with Season One, of which I now own 3/4 of the discs. HMV had them on sale, yay.

PS- no, I prefer RAGE FACE to bawling. RAGE FACE and sniggering at Jack Harkness. No, you don't need to say what you're thinking right now, we can all TELL.

I intend to fill the great void between now and the first Moffat season with watching the backlog I missed. And then moving onto Torchwood. *evil grin*

I also recommend the first season of the Sarah Jane Adventures, if you can get your hands on it somehow. Although it aired on CBBC and is thus technically a kids' show, it was quite well done, and it's still Who. :) (I watched all of it during the week between Turn Left and The Stolen Earth -- yay for the interwebs! :P)

Since I've already given my thoughts on Donna over at K's journal, I'll just say this: Steven Moffat is absolutely amazing. Watch Press Gang or Jekyll some time, as well as the Who eps he wrote, and you'll see what sheer artistry we have in store. He is, IMO, without hyperbole, one of the finest TV writers in the history of the form.

There are a few things RTD has done that I've not really been big on (the handling of Doctor/Rose, for example. Although I admit even I was aww-ing and squee-ing all through the beach scene last night), but, even though you make a valid point, he does handle the deep, gut-wrenching tragedy of the Doctor very well. Donna was both a part of that, and a tragedy in herself (see my comment to K).

Whatever else I might think about RTD, he does tend to go well above par in some very important ways. I thought that the last fifteen minutes of that episode - though flawed perhaps in some concepts - were executed beautifully. (And I've not seen my Dad so subdued, so obviously affected by a TV show before, which says an enormous amount to me.)

We formally request that this comment does not result in the presence of any mysterious insects in our proximity or sleeping facilites.

Oh, no, you're right, the entire thing was beautifully handled. Lovely direction, gut-wrenching, etc. I just hated the ideas. And I *really* hated the way they resolved the Doctor/Rose thing. She was right, it's *not* him, and while the Other Doctor might work for her, Doctor just pointing and saying 'have him' seemed callous. And weird. Oh so weird.

Oh, I know how good Moffat is. He's the reason I wouldn't watch Dr Who for years- I saw part of The Empty Child. *shudders*
