Also he thinks the fact that I did historical research is why the last chapter took me so long. I am befuddled by this. (But I'm a historian... Or I was... once...) But I'm not complaining.
FURTHERMORE, I figured out how to get feedback from him. The answer is not to give him the chapter to read, because he wont, but to TELL him what you wrote in it, and he will interrupt you with helpful comments. And/or 'fun things to read' which will probably do more good for my planned historical novel for teenage girls re: Emma of Normandy than they will for my thesis, but HEY IT'S FEEDBACK.
IN ADDITION: I was not looking forward to class today, because I've sat through 'introduction to medieval society/ literature/ manuscript production' about nine times, including this exact Old French one given by exactly the same teacher with exactly the same handouts. Fortunately for me, class was cancelled, and instead I got to hang out with my Wife and the Tock and a hilarious friend of the Wife's who is in my Medieval French Lit class.
Finally: the strange things you find yourself wishing you knew for the purposes of fic. In this case, I wish I could waltz, or had any experience with formal partnered dancing that doesn't happen in sets. Where is the Archangel when I need him? He's always wanted to teach me to waltz...
