Sweet Chilli, Soy and Mandarin Fandango:

A stir-fry involving sweet chilli sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil, chives, onions, almonds, honey, mandarin rind, and assorted vegetables.

Absolutely foul, but so weird you have to keep eating in order to see what will happen in the next bite. Beats Lemongrass Spectacular (a stir-fry involving many things, all overpowered by lemongrass) hands-down in the WEIRD SHIT AMY COOKS UP competition.

My god. Was food poisoning part of the plan? Because it sounds like that's what you were aiming for. It might have been better without the mandarin rind.

Less lemongrass would probably have worked. The problem wasn't the lemongrass per se, but rather the overwhelming amount of it.

Your cooking intuition sucks. I suggest Delia.

!! See, this is the problem. We're no longer forcing our young people to sit in front of stuffy British cookery shows for ten or twenty hours before they're considered adults. Delia Smith (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delia_Smith) does all that with a nonpatronising tone and clean country-style English kitchen backdrop.

... why the mandarin rind??

Adding the sesame oil to the chilli sauce and soy sauce was probably a bit much. And not sure chives really suit this style of cooking (that's my opinion ... my mother has a massive herb garden and we had it drummed into us at a young age that those herbs over there? Yes, those ... those are for Asian cooking. The ones towards the top? Italian meals. Etc.)!

Sometimes you remind me of myself before I went to Japan. I used to make the same sort of mistakes that Bridget Jones would make (you remember the blue soup scene? So me pre-2004). I have a nice photo of some of my taco shells on fire in the toaster-over I owned in Japan. I was able to take photos because of the four of us women standing there watching them burn, none of us could decide what to do ... til one of the girls tried to toss the whole thing into the sink WITH THE ELECTRICITY CHORD STILL ATTACHED! I very quickly vetoed that particularly course of action.
