honestly. first the bloody orthodontist wants to put more braces on me. Then he wants to rip the first lot off and start again (you're right, josh, the method of braces removal is utterly ridiculous. lets invent a Braces Dissolver or something), and THEN he insults my teeth.

my teeth aren't THAT funny. are they?

he took to them with an angle grinder, too :( so i guess they're less funny now.

anyway... came home with showbag of orthodontic stuff. including a teething ring :P which tastes funny, has the same pattern on it as you get on the bottom of shoes, and i really can't figure out what its supposed to do. but hey, its easier than nail biting (which is severely impeded by second row of braces). well-organised people, they give you anascetic gel and other cool stuff... the list of things what not to eat has changed slightly, but the list of don'ts- nail biting,'unnatural tongue thrusting'(wtf???) is all the same.

mangaged to eat lunch, god knows how. am now eating cookies by dint of soaking them in milk :D have braces in college colours *rolls eyes at self*. figured it'd make up for not having a jersey at todays lunch (arranged to borrow one from jen, but she didn't leave it outside my door until after lunch. thanks jen.)Lunch was Fiona Wood, she said much the same stuff she said to us at formal dinner last semester... interesting questions though, someone asked her how she deals with patient death.
whole thing was a huge advertising gimick- suitably snobby high schools invited so as to convince their students that they should come and be snobby here.

cut my finger on a butter knife :(

also missed my only class today... so will have a five-day 'weekend', 'cept i'm working tomorrow.

english looks like its going to be either terrible or fantastic, no in between. On the upside, got to sit with John and pretend i actually have friends in my classes :P this girl, ashley, is in my tute... met her on a bus in o-week, she showed me how to get to the big bookstore in sydney. and SHE's friends with John... so i might be able to maintain the facade of social interaction in that course.

went to a UCASTSA dinner combined with Partners for Peace talk by a Palestinian uni student... who was really friendly and VERYVERYVERY hot. also a fabulous speaker and very well informed, good writer (as in use of metaphors ect)...
Jo told me someone had jumped off the Manning balcony over the holidays, killed himself. that's cheerful.

meh. that's enough stuff for today. :D

oh- and who pronounces maroon (vb) the same way they do maroon (n, adj)????

Hrm... stuff to say.

oh- and who pronounces maroon (vb) the same way they do maroon (n, adj)????

Umm... I do. And before you say "Canadian/N. Am. thing," so does.... the OED (as of 1968, but I don't think it's changed much =P).

Wow... kudos on the butter knife. However, if you ever manage to strangle yourself with a cordless phone, then at least (for your sake) you won't be around to deal with the humiliation.

Hrm... probably shouldn't mock, given that you're not feeling very good at all. Although, perhaps this means that I've properly Aussie-ized... ripping into people, particularly when they're not doing so well. ^_- Who knows.

Hope you do feel/are feeling better.... ;)

somewhat. i'm down to 'panadol at meals' as opposed to 'two nurofen at five am and lie there whimpering for an hour'.

i suspect its an aussie-ism. Fact remains, however, that we are right.

"Right-ness" is intrinsically tied to perspective... but Oz is kinda smaller than England, the States, Canada... erm... so.... hide yourself in a corner and claim you're right... go ahead. =P If you had the whole US's "large population + we dominate the Internet" thing going.. yeah, you could go off and propagate alternative pronunciations (like US's spelling of 'centre' and so forth)... but... nope. =P

i'm going to claim that i'm right because our pronunciation of the colour is closer to the french 'marron', even if its not the same colour. i figure there's more chance of maroon (n, adj) being related to the french for brown than to the english for 'leave stranded on a rock'.
