You may have noticed there's an LJ strike happening on Friday.
It's starting at 00:00 GMT Friday 21st of March. That's 11am Friday to 11am Saturday for people in NSW, VIC and TAS. Niamh has a list of other time zones.
What's it about? The general crankiness about the decision to stop offering new basic accounts, and the way the annoucement was made, comprises the top three points on the list of 'what's this about'. The FOURTH point is very interesting, however:
Hmph.

* And finally, it's about the latest decision to hide certain user interests from the list of Most Popular Interests, some of them being fanfiction, bisexuality, fairies, sex and depression. This decision was not announced or explained in any way. Users found out for themselves.
Hmph.

Date: 2008-03-20 03:18 am (UTC)I think the term "interests" is perhaps too broad. While I am gay, putting "gay" in my Interests field seems wrong; I am not interested in gay, I am gay. That's why I like the way Facebook does it - General, Interests, and then more specific categories. It also allows for more grammatically correct listings.

facebook has its ups and downs. LJ's categories are pretty restrictive, i'll concede. but then facebook is so clinical feeling.
