Assorted ministers will be marching in Mardi Gras this year and 60 have signed a formal apology for exclusion of gay and lesbian people from the church.

'O course, who knows how many of them are doing this out of a 'love the sinner hate the sin' approach, or how many would be happy to see gay and lesbian people given equal access to ordination, but hey. It's a start.

huh, i just posted about them too. from the blog, they seem pretty eager to make sure they're not saying it's actually okay to be gay, which is the main reason why i'm cynical. also nothing in their statement about listening to queer people which i think is problematic. but yes. Right Direction.

Apologising for excluding us from the church but then keeping up the exclusion would be terribly hypocritical. Even worse, it would be bad for their image. I may have no faith in the leaders of the christian churches, but I can't believe they would go and make that much show and then still refuse to include us.

oh, you fail to comprehend the mental leaps of the conservative.

the way it goes is: we're SORRY for EXCLUDING you, as people, from our CONGREGATIONS... but you can't LEAD our congregations, and actually we'd rather you didn't keep doing that thing that you're doing with the other men. But we really are SORRY, because we should be showing you the LOVE OF JEEBERS and if we don't how will you ever be SAVED and learn the error of your ways.

gotta love the evangelicals.

on account of having unnatural sex is an abomination.
collecting firewood on the sabbath is an abomination.
and if the lord catches any gay firewood collectors on a friday night or saturday...well, we all know where you'll end up.
:)
Growing up where I did it took me a long time to realise that even these days some people are ridiculous. and some are genuinely good and lovely, and still ridiculous. this is something - and I feel old and sell-outy saying this - you kind of get used to. not cynical like people who are willfully cynical without giving conservatives a chance on an individual basis, but sell-outy in that you realise that some people with the most abominable views I can think of (homophobes, racists, sexists etc) can actually be good people. just mislead.
Dear God(s/ess/esses), I sound just like a religious paternalist in reverse, don't I? I don't pretend to know what's best for them, though

April, we love you and we miss you.

Brenton spent his afternoon arguing with crazy catholics and otherwise sweet evangelicals. Now he's all worn out.
