Too cute for words

[profile] silentkimbly  is a wonderful haven for cuteness and bad puns. Check it out, all ye people.

Word on the grapevine says Dame Eleanor Hull is new to the medievalist blogsophere and can tell you all sorts of things about making quills. I tip my hat to Jennifer Lyn Jordan of Per Omni Saecula for this information. (Although, this is Monday! Where's my Medieval Animal, woman?)

[profile] ursulav  devotes time and attention to orc grandmothers. awesome.

Adventures in the land of Summer

* I have no job. I have to look for one. I have made desultory motions in this direction so far.
* I picked Joel up from school today, and we had Adventures In Libraries. I came out with two of the books [profile] goblinpaladin  would most like to see me reading: Charles De Lindt's Dreams Underfoot and Richard Dawkins' The God Delusion.1 Read the introduction to the latter this evening and it reads to me like a challenge. There will be no half-hearted attempt at reading this book. Expect sporadic progress updates.
* I have decided to re-learn to swim. Well, to learn to swim more than ten metres at a time. It's a matter of stamina, which I lack utterly. As a result, after two fifteen-minute attempts at this, I am tired and sore.
* I am driving. Petrol is stupidly expensive. I want a new bicycle, not that this would do me any good as everything is an hour's drive from here anyway.

Cooking

Is fun. While [profile] goblinpaladin  is discovering the joy of cheese-and-egg on toast, I have had an Encounter With Pastry. Said encounter can be considered a draw- the pastry defeated me and covered me in flour and was generally a bastard to work with, but I did manage to get it into the quiche pans and cook quiche in it. Well, more of a flan really. And I discovered that egg and oregano isn't the optimum choice. Chives and coriander, we will try next time.

1. The other two on his List are Paradise Lost and Seamus Heaney's Beowulf. I'm trying to get hold of the latter and read it before the movie comes out, but the Newcastle Regional Library is stupidly lacking in this regard.

Look lady, I don't know about your hemisphere, but here we wait to do our WMAMs until we've been awake for AT LEAST two hours. It's just the way things are done. ;)

Haha! I don't think so...I usually do them around 10AM at work on Mondays, when I've had a cup of coffee and my brain is working. If you're anything like me most of Monday is a blur anyway, so perhaps you only THOUGHT it was Sunday =)

Ohh! You're reading De Lint (who is sadly not related to the Swiss chocolate guys - I can't be bothered to spell chocolatiers...oh wait)? Can you give a review of Dreams Underfoot when you've read it? I can't remember if I read it or not, or actually I might have read it under another name, cos I read a lot of De Lint in Canada and they give books different names over there sometimes....

I have been making EPIC juices! They mostly involve piles of peaches and nectarines with apples. Last year I did ones with grapes and stuff, they were awesome. Also I have been rotting my teeth with the following: ice cream with mangoes and strawberry syrup (really strawberry jam that my Dad tried to make in the microwave and stuffed up). DELICIOUS.
