Quaranmeme
Apr. 12th, 2020 07:20 pm1. Are you an essential worker?
Extremely not. I am working from home, and it is not even essential that I do so in a frantic manner, as it is for some friends in the sort of industries that support key industries.
2. How many drinks have you had since the quarantine started?
... lord, I don't know, it would frankly be weird to be keeping count at a month in???
3. If you have kids... Are they driving you nuts?
N/A
4. What new hobby have you taken up during this?
I started baking gluten-free bread. And as we have all seen I am resisting ordering a sewing machine.
5. How many grocery runs have you done?
It's been a MONTH, I'm not counting! More than one per week, because the first week co-incided with me moving into my flat. It's been one per week for the past two weeks, though.
6. What are you spending your stimulus check on?
Lol. What stimulus cheque. Even if I was still in Aus I wouldn't be eligible because I didn't pay tax last financial year.
7. Do you have any special occasions that you will miss during this quarantine?
During the shutdown itself it's mostly smaller recurring things - like workshops in Geneva. I'm having to put off my housewarming plans. Switzerland will, I think, be out of major lockdown by June, but I am definitely missing at least one conference this year thanks to coronavirus. There's also the additional factor whereby it's not as if my partner was going to visit me right now, but we can't even plan ahead until Australia's crisis period is past (they're a key worker) and the international air travel system gets back on its feet. At worst, I may miss my brother's wedding next year, but I suspect that won't come to pass.
8. Are you keeping your housework done?
Yes, although I have yet to figure out how to get weird calcified-water marks off glass shower screens. Not with normal window cleaner, it seems. Suggestions?
9. What movie have you watched during this quarantine?
NONE NONE NONE.
10. What are you streaming?
Absolutely nothing audio-visual. For podcasts, see yesterday's listening post.
11. Nine months from now is there any chance of you having a baby?
Extremely not.
12. What's your go-to quarantine meal?
I haven't made the same thing twice since this started! I think there have been two curries, but not the same kind. I'm developing a strong line in 'guac and dip and stuff' for lunch, though.
13. Is this whole situation making you paranoid?
Mmmm no, not in the hygeine-infection way or the police-state way (worried, yes, not paranoid). It IS making me uncomfortably aware how many of one's friends might suddenly turn out to be "well those people would have died anyway" types, OR "extremely angry that anyone is using the postal system still" types. And in a longer range, it's making me unsettled in my life choices and relationship structures, and over-fretting about others.
14. Has your internet gone out on you during this time?
No! I'm using 4G, and not with the national mainstay provider (which is the one that's been having outages). This turns out to be a good choice.
15. What month do you predict this all ends?
Ends? ENDS? Some time next year, at best. However, I think there's a fair chance of schools, at least, going back in switzerland next month.
16. First thing you’re gonna do when you get off quarantine?
I would say haircut, but actually I will dither about whether to go back to very short or try a longer top for a while. As soon as the library reopens, I'm there. As soon as cafés reopen (which I expect will be later than the library), ditto.
Anyone else notice this meme is structured as if lockdown is a binary off/on? Meme writer is in for a sharp shock, I suspect.
17. Where do you wish you were right now?
I... hadn't actually got as far as making Easter plans. I think I am exactly where I would have been otherwise. I wish I were sitting on a fully assembled sofa, with fully assembled bookshelves and the like, though. It would have been nice to be up in the alps, but I wouldn't have done that on the long weekend, because $$$.
18. What free-from-quarantine activity are you missing the most?
Sitting in cafés, being Where The People Are but not having to talk to them. I'm getting simultaneously lonely from bouncing around in my own house, and exhausted from having to *talk to people* via zoom and the like. I miss incidental social contact.
19. Have you run out of toilet paper and hand sanitizer?
Fine for loo roll. Managed to get some hand san in week 2 of shutdown, but it turns out I don't use it much if I'm not actually... going anywhere.
20. Do you have enough food to last a month?
Uh. I would probably have sustenance for a month, but I only really have *food* for two weeks, after that it would be 'aaand here's two things that don't go together, but do they go with risotto rice???'. I also only have milk and juice supplies for about 10 days.

Date: 2020-04-13 07:18 pm (UTC)In the States, we have specialized cleaners made for removing lime/calcium type deposits made by hard water. Anything like that there? If not, have you tried a vinegar solution on your shower?
