I'm exhausted, you're getting a bare bones update this week. I think I missed last week entirely??
Currently Reading:
Fiction: Convenience Store Woman (Sayaka Murata). I'm alternately loving it and cringing as I can see the Mistake On The Horizon.
Non-Fiction/Academic: Germano's 'From PhD To Book'. It's... sort of helping, but not really.
Lit Mag: still, ostensibly, Meanjin Summer 2018 (I think in the past many posts I said Winter 2018. Got my hemispheres confused)
I DNF'd Redwall, but gave it 3 stars for old times sake.
Recently Finished: Proper reviews for all to come... another week.
Martha Wells, Rogue Protocol and Exit Strategy
Easton and Hardie, The Ethical Slut
Shallcross and Large, A Hand of Knaves (finally!)
Tara Westover, Educated
Pratchett and Gaiman, Good Omens
Kris Ripper, Gays of Our Lives
Online Fiction:
Jonathan Dunk (Meanjin Summer 2018), The Burial of Thomas A Beckett. Sadly, not historical fiction. Very much not. Stream-of-consciousness, about a child and a cat. I admired the style, and it would make a great classroom text.
Sumudu Samarawickrama (Meanjin Summer 2018), Rathu. This I was less sure about, but it had a strong sense of place and I like that. And a haunting recurring line, 'No woman was wasted', that floated in my head for days.
Up Next:
I have many things I ought to read, but what I am GOING to read is... more Kris Ripper, because Reasons.
Music notes:
I have a Good Omens problem, vis, not enough Queen music. I listened to You're My Best Friend 77 times in two days, and this is just something I need to accept about myself.
I was listening to the latest Washington album on Spotify (and indeed several others I'd missed the release of), until Spotify cut me off. Since when has Spotify had monthly limits???
I liked but didn't LOVE Maggie Rogers when I first bought 'Heard it in a past life' but it's remaining in steady rotation and growing on me.
