What Are You Reading Wednesday
Nov. 14th, 2018 07:31 pmHello hello it's that time again, and I haven't much to report.
Currently reading: A slightly slimmer list, at least. All fiction: Elmet, At Swim Two Boys (still on hiatus), and 'The Dressmaker of Draper's Lane', an ARC I haven't really got into yet.
Recently finished: No mini-reviews this time - they're all due full reviews.
Tyler Bradway, Queer Experimental Literature: review copy for the Journal of Popular Romance Studies. Made my brain hurt. Not related to popular romance at all.
Ann Aptaker, Flesh and Gold: Netgalley ARC. Lesbian detective/thriller thing set in 1950s US & Cuba. Complicated feelings, good structure overall.
Sydney Blackburn, A Deceptive Alliance: Netgalley ARC. Did you want gender-flipped 'Alanna the First Adventure' crossed with Captive Prince? Because that's what this is. Handsome lad disguises self as twin sister, ends up married to handsome prince. Mixed feelings as a medievalist, but generally approving of its existence.
Up Next: For sudden abrupt academic reasons I need to read Chaucer's Troilus. So that's... a thing.
Other Media: abandoned TAZ for The Penumbra Podcast, am all *hearteyes* over it. Queer space detective stories!!! Yes good!!!
Also I've been following Motherlover since the comic's inception. It's slow (weekly updates) but at the moment every update leaves me shrieking AAAAHHHHH and waiting for the other shoe to drop. Character design is gorgeous, too. Do recommend.
Music: Finally bought 'Chris' (Christine and the Queens'. Worth it.
