I dreamt I had a Facebook page. The other night, I dreamt I had a car. I think my subconscious wants me to be more Normal.
I did not have a conversation with the Boy In The Coffee Shop, but I did get smiled at. TWICE. BECAUSE I BOUGHT COFFEE TWICE. *shakes head* Yes, I'm an idiot.
I bought books! Including the letters of Ted Hughes. Observe:
That from a letter to Edna Wholey, the sister of a schoolfriend, written at around 20 while serving in the RAF. Oh, Ted.
Mrs D. got me to read Plath in year twelve, and in so doing I stumbled over Ted Hughes. I... most people seem to like Plath and hate Hughes, maybe blame him a bit (didn't he cheat on her? Divorce her?), but my sympathy has always been with him. Plath's writing is gorgeous, but... I don't *like* her from it. Ted Hughes I liked at once. I like his writing, I like his personality, and my heart aches for him when it comes to Sylvia... You can see from his writing how much he loved her, and how much it messed with his head, being married to her... Did he think, when they started out, that she was something his affection *could* touch?

Last night as I was coming down the field I heard a commotion in the hedge, and after a while, out trundled a hedgehog, merry as you like, and obviously out for a good time. I thought he might make a jolly companion for an evening, so I brought him in. Adter a while I noticed he had disappeared and later heard a noise just like the sobbing of a little child, but very faint, and it continued for long enough. I traced it to a pile of boxes, and there was my comrade, with his nose pressed in a corner in a pool of tears, and his face all wet, and snivelling and snuffling his heart out. I could have kissed him for compassion. I don't know why I"m so sympathetic towards hedgehogs. Once when John and I threw one in the pond, it nearly broke my heart to see it swimming to the shore. It must be that they're something my affection can't touch, and as all through my life the things I've loved best have been prickles toward that love, hedgehogs have become a symbol of such unrequited desire, and move me so nostalgically. I carried Harry outside and let him go - he wouldn't even roll up he was so sad

NOMMY FOODS
Jul. 14th, 2009 06:44 pmHere is a recipe for risotto wot I just made:
Ingredients:
Vegetables!
Suggested vegetables are: mushrooms and capsicum, chopped; asparagus, beans and maybe carrots, chopped and quickly microwaved so that they're reasonably cooked
1 x onion, chopped
2 x garlic cloves, chopped
3 tablespoons or a generous pouring of olive oil
4 cups of stock (chicken or vegetable for white wine, beef if you have it for red wine)
3 tbsp wine - red or white, although note that the red wine makes your risotto look like BRAAAINS, at least according to Lucy monster
Maybe some bacon or diced ham pieces
1 generous cup of Arborio rice
Parmesan or Pecorino cheese
What you do with them
1. Sautee the garlic, onion and maybe bacon or ham for ~ 3 min, in a frying pan in the olive oil. While so doing, put the stock in a small saucepan nearby and bring it to simmer.
2. Stir in the rice, making sure that the grains are coated in oil
3. Stir in the wine! Pour yourself a glass of wine while stirring!
4. When the wine is evaporated/absorbed, spoon in a ladle of stock. Stir.
5. When the first ladle is absorbed, repeat.
6. Repeat for ~ 20 minutes, by which time the rice will be all nice and fluffy
7. One or two ladles from the end, add mushrooms and capsicum and any other non-microwaved veggies you can think of
8. With the last ladle, add the par-cooked veggies. Stir them through for a couple of minutes.
9. Serve with grated cheese on the top!
10. Have another glass of wine! Make tipsy LJ posts!

Jul. 14th, 2009 09:27 pmTonight I
1. Cleaned my desk
2. Sorted out all my paperwork which has been accumulating
3. Figured out how to roll my RIDICULOUS COLLECTION OF SUPER FUNDS into one. Seriously. I have been avoiding this ever since I started getting "welcome to XXX super fund" letters over the summer. I'm not entirely sure how many I have - looks like four or five? I have to go through my old paperwork and check. With the exception of the PSSAP one, there is *no reason* why I should've got a slew of "welcome to XXX super fund" letters, but I did. I SHOULD ONLY HAVE TWO. Every job I've been in until now I asked for my money to go to REST. And yet, here are all these random super fund letters. At least one was a boo-boo on the part of college; god knows what the others were. REGARDLESS, turns out I can fill in one form many times and send it to the PSSAP and they'll deal with it.
Now I have space to set up my new external hard drive. I HAS A TERRABYTE. I WILL NEVER NEED SPACE AGAIN.
