Three Things make a post

1. No Reading Wednesday post yesterday because a) travel and b) haven't finished reading anything and only started one thing.

2. I have now handed the final hard copies of my PhD in. Thus the travelling: Sun-Wednesday to and from Geneva. Saw friends, had many many weird feelings (mostly... angry? I was ANGRY at my PhD, i don't even know), got some stuff out of storage, including my German and Latin grammar drilling books.

3. Other travelling: St Andrews last weekend, Oxford coming up the weekend before Christmas. St A was beautiful, A+ I intend to go back.

Also, as noted in my flocked post, there's a Tumblr Implosion going on. Not to mention the insidious facebook policy change. The internet is, as someone aptly noted, not going tits up but rather tits-away. I have a lot of opinions but most of them are a. unsurprising and b. not particularly eloquent compared to many. conuly had a good set of round-up links if that's of interest to you.

Yay Musk Lorikeets! Apparently they have "a pleasant musky smell" but I want to know how whoever named them even THOUGHT to smell them. I mean--

I really enjoyed your St Andrews posts, I spent a year there in... 1998? I think? And everyone's like "oh you went to St Andrews University how lovely" but no. No, I went to the girls' boarding school just across the street from St Rule's Cathedral and it was sort of horrid actually! but we had some phenomenally old buildings and I didn't really know what to do with myself in general, but it was an amazing place and I wish I could go back and not just be weirded out by it all.

Wait, there is facebook fuckery afoot above and beyond the normal baseline assumption of evil? What is? Is this why literally no one is responding to my posts any more? Or did I miss a f-locked post somewhere?

Facebook just upped their adult content ban to cover various forms of ‘solicitation’ (obviously a response to FOSTA/SESTA) and they now define ‘mention of sexual partner preference’ and ‘implication of intent to have sex’ as solicitation. So, you can’t tell Facebook you have any preferences, and you can’t use Facebook to organize dates.

I don’t think that has anything to do with drop in comments on your posts (do you mean DW posts or FB?). Possibly the tumblr malarkey + December Days means people just have more on their DW readlists than usual?

Ugh, FACEBOOK! As for the drop in comments, I do mean facebook. I have been getting crickets to the extent that it's making me feel silly for even posting - and wondering if either the algorithm is just not showing people my posts or everyone has now left.

It seems, however, from the reaction to my latest post, that it's some combination of people not being into what I'm posting and people not seeing my posts (possibly because they're not getting the boost of an initial burst of likes or something)? I mean whatever, but sigh.

In contrast, I'm 100% fine with the rate of comments I'm getting on DW! I like comments, but I'm not really posting in search of them in the same way that I'm posting on facebook in search of people's reactions.
