Courtesy of Dr Nokes, I encourage you all to check out the trailers for the low-budget film "The Saxon Chronicles", about everyone's favourite king, Alfred the Great.

There does seem to be someone (Alfred?) snogging a nun in the second one, so that should be fun...
Dwellers in the Northern Hemisphere, do tell me- does "Winter 2007" mean it was released in Jan/Feb, or that it is likely to be released in December?
ED: IMDB dates to 2006, so i guess it was released last northern winter. Wonder if there was ever a DVD release?

I got completely distracted by the neatness of his beard (I had no idea Saxons kept their facial hair so perfectly, perfectly trimmed) and the hotty at the start. Woooooh.

yes, but there's good excruciating and bad excruciating. good excruciating is something like this, which makes no pretence at excellence. Bad excruciating is what the coming Beowulf might turn out to be

Nokes, rather than NoAkes, please. Though your spelling is the Tolkienian spelling, as I recall. I've often wondered what JRRT had against my family that we all appear motivated by mild spite all the time in his writings.

My reaction to the trailer was also that it didn't look too good, but then I saw that it was produced for $10000 in 14 days ... given that, it looks GREAT!
