Diversion: The opposite of a wingman. A wingman is a member of the same sex who enables you to pick up; a wingman/woman can also be a member of the opposite sex, such as a cousin, sibling, or obviously platonic friend, who will ingratiate you with other members of the opposite sex. A Diversion is a member of the (usually) opposite sex who will do you a favour by discouraging people from hitting on you and/or noticing your attraction to a third party. A Diversion does not have to know about their role- you may cultivate the illusion of a lingering attraction to them; if you are normally affectionate with them you can strategically hug/massage/joke/etc with them in the presence of unwanted suitors. However, a Diversion who knows you don't want to be picked up will conveniently appear at intervals to speak with you, hug you, warn you that you're not doing your own cause any good by flirting with the unwanted suitor.

If potential hitters on read your journal, then yes, he/they would be rendered useless.

Can I ask, though, why it is "he/they"? It sounds as if this person is either male or without gender. Do you go drinking with robots?

I can personally confirm that Amy regularly goes drinking with Robots. Usually you can't tell but every so often they go "KILL ALL HUMANS" and then potential suitors usually notice the giant hulking metal robot and run away.

Unless that is they were like me and familiar with the three laws of robotics and know robots can't harm people. In which case Amy has to resort to more human distractions.

Aw, poor things don't have Chameleon Circuits? Tell them they should invest in some - there'll be far fewer visual-induced moments of fleeing-human chaos.

It's a good thing they haven't evolved far enough to alter their interpretation of the Three Laws. If they had, they could go 'round killin' people to assert their guardian-like dominance and "protect us from ourselves".
