What to do when you have so many women, and only one Valentines Day? Many Sydneyites seem to be suffering from this problem- or the inverse, too many men and only one Valentines Day. Valentines Day Cards are purchased in pairs, even threes and fours. At first, i noticed these women and thought 'aha, smart girl- one for you to give to him, and one for him to give to you.'
With the men, somewhat sexistly, i thought 'aha, having a little bit on the side, huh? two little bits on the side?'
I am at a loss, however, to explain the woman who yesterday bought two cards "for my Husband".

Joel has a much more novel solution to this problem. According to mum, he will be swanning into school tomorrow bearing a single red rose (possibly pinched from the bunch dad bought for mum). This rose will then be distributed, petal by petal, to his lady friends.
Having been the occaisional recipient of roses myself over the last few months, and having shredded one of them, i can tell you that a rose has a lot of petals. So, it seems, does Joel.

A) Sydenites*. Now we are even.
B) Boo! BOOOO! I say to those lucky greedy enough to hoard Valentines Day cheer in the form of multiple partnershippings.
C) Lucky sod. Wish someone'd give me a rose :(
D) I want to make snarky "depetal-ing deflowering" comments re the rose petals, but my brain is all fuzzledy at the moment.

A) sydenites? that's the correct term? i didn't think there *was* one.

B) I say boo to valentines day in general. load of crap designed to torture stationeers* everywhere.

C) roses die. and who's the sod, anyway- me, mum or joel???

D) potential humour noted.

*stationeer= one who sells stationery.

A) I don't know, nor care, if there is a "correct" term, but I shall forever, in my mind at least, be a Sydenite.

B) Oh, as do I. But still, those who get to have more than their fair share of the fake holiday goods are mean and greedy and I say boooo to them glarefully.

C) But the sentiment lives on, you see. And I was refering to you, for receiving multiple roses, even if over a larger period of time. I would never call your mother a sod, lucky or no.

D) thank you

And I could figure out what a stationeer was for myself, thanks :P

A) well i'll be a novocastrian, then. and have to fight for the title with every *true* novocastrian i meet, just because my parents elected to live in some piddling town to the north.

b) indeed. although they are maintaining my employment

c) there's nothing i can say to that really.

d) no problem

s: fine

A) Could be worse. You could have been born in Tasmania. Then you'd be a Taswegian.

B) True, true. And we do like to be employed; makes paying bills so much easier :P

C) You know I still love you, though, right?

D) I'd hate to think it was a problem.

:P

A) indeed, that would be abominable (mind you i wasn't even *born* in not-quite newcastle... I was born in penrith, don't tell anyone)

B) mind you, my timetable this year looks like a total bastard...

C) glad to hear it

D) i think that's sorted then.

A) Meh. Penrith ain't so bad. Last crush was from Penrith, and he was one of the best people I've ever met. Then again, my sister's last beau was Penrithian, I believe, and he turned out to be a total pricky prickhead.

B) You already have your timetable? Is that a perk of living on Campus? 'Cause I didn't think they were available until O-week...

B) no, but i've found the subject timetables for three of four subjects, and i've already got only fridays off. grumble grumble just hope the fourth one doesn't give me clashes.

Only fridays? I've never had more than Fridays off. And you should be happy you get any days off beside the weekend. Friends of mine last year didn't have any days off. So just you count your lucky stars, missy :P

The correct (read most often used by a large margin) term for someone from Sydney is a "Sydneysider" or the plural Sydneysiders" I don't know why, but it turns out alliteration is more common than most people realise.
