[personal profile] highlyeccentric
1. What did you do in 2014 that you'd never done before?

Stage-managed a production. Had a terrible hangover (not related to stage management).

2. Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I did do the photo-a-day thing. In fact I posted far more than one photo per day on [tumblr.com profile] speculumannorum, and it was rewarding. I gave up writing bi-monthly summary posts after about six months.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

No one particularly close to me, no.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

5. What countries did you visit?

UK, France, and the Netherlands. Also, Australia.

6. What would you like to have in 2015 that you lacked in 2014?

A lease in my name, but I don't have high hopes.

7. What date from 2014 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

Actual *dates*, I have no idea. 9th Sept maybe, I have to keep writing down the date I officially took up my current sublease. Days... not sure. I will remember how immensely distressing the breakup was, but distinct events therein have blurred already. I will probably remember my pre-doc defense.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Maybe my predoc? It probably ought to be. But I feel rather negative about it. Learning to crochet probably wins.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Not getting the article revisions dealt with, I guess.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Brains, so much brains.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

I hope the sunlamp will prove to be of greatest long-term benefit. Failing that, hot pink trousers and a lolly-striped top.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

Possibly [profile] clavicularity for breakup support and refraining from saying "I told you so".

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

Recent ex. His other girlfriend. Students en masse, although individually they're just disappointing.

14. Where did most of your money go?

Rent and living expenses. What remains after that I seem to have spent on brownies and mocchachinos.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

... that's what I said last year and I stand by it.

16. What song will always remind you of 2014?

Probably "All About that Bass". My new favourite swiss radio station play it a lot.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder?
Sadder overall, although today specifically I am happier because I am in waaarm places.
ii. thinner or fatter? Fatter, but not much heavier. Body weird.
iii. richer or poorer? Sliiii-ghtly richer, but I'm about to blow all that on a new computer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Hanging out with lady-likin' ladies.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Wifework, of the managing-your-boyfriend's-emotions variety.

20. How did you spend Christmas?

In a hotel room in Newcastle with parents, brother, and little sister.

21. How will you be spending did you spend New Year's?

I spent it with friend J and his friends in a backyard. Lilly and Kristen were there for a while. It was low-key and pleasant.

22. Did you fall in love in 2014?

I fell out of one, possibly two, depending on how you calculate it, romantic wossnames.

23. How many one-night stands?

24. What was your favorite TV program(s)?

Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

Nah, not hate. I am super disappointed though, which is in some ways worse.

26. What was the best book you read?

Once again I read so MANY books! According to Goodreads I read 117 books, although many of them were work books and I may not have read them cover-to-cover. Let's go by subdivisions:

Non-fiction that's not for work: Closer to Home: Bisexuality & Feminism (with the caveat that it's not, objectively, the best book on bisexuality out there - that would be Eisner's Bi: Notes for a Bisexual Revolution), or Diccon Bewes' Slow Train to Switzerland.
Academic reading: William M. Reddy's The Navigation of Feeling, maybe? Or The Lesbian Premodern, which I'm still working through.
Fiction for fun: I think my discovery of Chalet School books wins, this year.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?

Muder Ballads, Pretty in Scarlet, or the all-girl ACDC tribute show Back In Black.

28. What did you want and get?

A bit of fiction-writing capacity back.

29. What did you want and not get?

A healthy and functioning poly relationship (or two) :s

30. What was your favorite film of this year?

Guardians of the Galaxy? It might have been the ONLY film I saw in the cinema this year. (No wait I also saw Under the Skin, which was objectively better but less fun.)

31. What did you do on your birthday?

I cannot recall.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Less of the goddamn patriarchy up in my personal life thank you.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013?

Still more femme than I expected.

34. What kept you sane?

Changing psychs. No more freudian dream analysis!

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

I don't think I did.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?

WHAT IS WRONG WITH AUSTRALIA WHAT THE HELL. Special mention goes to education policy and GP co-payment proposals.

37. Who did you miss?

Kylee. Recent ex. Katie. Pretty much everyone.

38. Who was the best new person you met?

Friend L, who I think I met late in 2013 but befriended in 2014. She is awesome and has many excellent books.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2014:

Oh, ugh, let's not even. It's all shit.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Have a youtube clip.
