was good :D Amy Davies is back, so we have flute, which is nice. and she seemed to be picking my favoritemost songs today.
sad news: Frere Roger, the leader of the Taize community, was stabbed to death this week, by a mentally unstable woman, in the middle of community worship. John spent some time at Taize in his younger days, apparently. While he was there, someone told him about Roger's room: he had a bed, a desk, a chair, and some books. The only other thing in Roger's room was a framed motto reading 'How can I weep tears, when others are weeping blood?' (presumably in French. Maybe Latin, though.)
Buzz, the previous mission worker at Sydney/UTS, sent an email from India recently. It seems he's not having the greatest time of it. Language barriers are proving quite an issue, as the boys he's working with have minimal english, and only a few of the girls are in english stream classes. We get the idea he's struggling a bit, but trying to stay positive.
went on ANOTHER retail therapy spree today :D bought another skirt, this time for seven dollars. woot :D
also bought will a birthday present. never mind that his birthday isn't for two months... its a GOOD present.
book: reading that thing on modesty. interesting- her analysis of the social function of modesty and so on is fairly in depth and doesn't wander back to 'because god said so', which is always nice.
however, i'm coming to the conclusion that i must know the weirdest bunch of guys on the planet. Every analyst of gender relations, from the christian anti-dating theologians to raving feminists and everyone in between, starts from the assumption that men are scheming, immature, horny bastards, and that women need to civilise them/ protect selves from them/ murder them all. women, on the other hand, are romanitic, desire commitment, and have a higher definition of 'attractive' which is based on mutal compatibility and possiblity of long-term future.
i'm sorry? the guys I know are the soppy romantic idiots, all very nice and caring and emotional, ect; and I'm the cold bitch with the commitment and/or trust problems.
