Thanks to Lukas, I've recently fallen in love with Great Big Sea's Rant and Roar. Sadly, my extensive background in aussie shearing songs and the like has not prepared me to understand this. Specifically, the chorus confuses me:

We'll rant and we'll roar like true Newfoundlanders
We'll rant and we'll roar on deck and below
Until we strikes bottom inside the two sunkers
When straight through the channel to Toslow we'll go

does anyone know what sunkers are? or how it is that a ship can proceed straight on through a channel, having struck bottom inside them?

for that matter, can anyone make a guess as to what 'the wall with the hole in' is, in the last verse?

ed: and in a procrastinatory googling of the song, to see what I could find, i discovered "Brisbane Ladies", in which one may Rant and Roar 'like true queensland drovers'.

also, in a great indication of how much the universe at large cares about Newfoundland: a googling of Toslow brings up three or four sets of Rant and Roar lyrics but no information on the town in question.

Oh great music! I just had a listen to some of their music clips on their official site..and I've been converted lol.
