*slowly stops twitching*
Aug. 20th, 2005 11:37 ami overdrew my net account on thursday, and couldn't get online all last night... *twitches* i'm a leetle disturbed by the sheer amount of distress it caused, actually. this is not healthy. and i'm starting to think in LJ entries... should i be worried?
work... is ok. Ben was sick so i worked back a bit, which means a bit more $$, and that's nice. went to medicare and ordered a new card, then had a breif Retail Therapy Session, net result of which was two birthday cards and one skirt. Fifteen dollars for a nice winter dressy skirt. I LIKE retail therapy, and i especially like being able to walk into a shop, pick up the first thing you see and have it fit perfectly.
Found a wattle tree in full flower. This makes me happy. I picked a bit and stuck it in a bottle. Of course it's only going to shed all over my already disastrous mess of a desk, but hey.
Got a callback from the guy at Dymocks. Was too late by the time i got home to ring back, but i should try today, i guess.
From the road above Manning you can see the planes taking off. They look like toys, hardly real at all. But then airliners always do. Fighters, on the other hand, always look real. Hercs and Caribous and things, they look too ungainly to be real, certainly too bulky to be flying.
Went into Reserve to try and do some work, but someone already had Knox out. 'The first blast against the monstrous regiment of women', it's called. I don't think i'm going to be able to drive Pratchett out of my head long enough to write the essay...
There are entirely too many Maddoxes in Sydney Presbytery. Bec Maddox is in my bible study, and she's related to Marion Maddox, who wrote 'God Under Howard', and she's related to Alan Maddox who's some bigwig lecturer at the Con, and he's related to Sass' new boyfriend. And they're all related to Bec's grandmother, who is some kind of UCATSA legend, apparently.
Sass' Stephen gets kudos for being a Brave Man. Brave enough to risk friday night dinner at college...
They've decorated the dining room with flags from all over the place, in preparation for international dinner. I note that the Australian and British flags get pride of place beside the portait of Louisa, America and something i don't recognise get either side of the door, but there's not one indigenous flag anywhere. Of course, it could just be that it was all organised by Emilie, and how's she to know what's PC here? (but then, i think she's been on the uni campus for long enough have some kind of clue)
or on the other hand, it could, and probably is, because we're the kind of snobby white woman's institution that speaks proudly of its three indigenous students.
The flag of Bhutan is there :D i like this. i've adopted said flag for nationstates, so i feel special.
Funniest bit was Tehi stalking around, whinging about the lack of Sri Lankan flag. Stephen looks at her, looks at the flag nearest us in the centre of the room, and says to me, 'thats it there'.
'No,' say I. 'Tehi'd know her own flag.'
'Don't argue with Tehi,' warns Sass.
Reena leans over, turns Tehi around, and says 'There.' Tehi stares at it. And stares at it. Slowly recognition dawns.
book: Loving Che, Ana Menendez. Pretty book.
music: Halfcocked- Bad Repuation
mood: awake, finally! you'd think with Cheif Distraction gone, i'd get more sleep and more work done. fat chance. Kate and Sass have taken to keeping me awake and not working... Went to bed at eleven last night and slept till nine, though. Still haven't done any work, but at least i'm awake.
