something you don't often think about when you hear about all those predatory footballers/cricketers/etc out there.

i liked this article. not enough attention gets paid to the fact that it's possible for a man to be invaded and/or violated in ways that we all know, because it's been drummed into us till we can say it in our sleep, are NOT OK when it's done to a woman.

As someone who is desperately hoping to make the NRL, I found it a very interesting article. It is very sad to see the role of women reduced to being after match entertainment and worse that alot of young women are more than ready to take that role.

From my little experience in it, it is a very sad and sordid world.

while i don't doubt that's a problem, what struck me most about this article is that, if this commentator is right, it's as much the men being treated as pieces of meat as it is the women.

heh, david asked me today what i thought the conservatives have going for them in terms of theology, and that might be it. i went to a conservative christian school, and they taught that it was our job as girls to make sure that we weren't dressing or acting in a way that might turn young men on, because young men have no self control. showing our shoulders was apparently very bad- worse than short skirts even.
that outlook disgusts me for a whole variety of reasons- it's not giving guys enough credit, and it's telling girls that they're personally responsible for not only their own body but that of any man who looks at them.
but as a model of understanding human relationships, it has one really important thing going for it: it recognises a woman's power to affect men in ways they aren't happy with. We're all taught, there's so much emphasis on teaching men to deal responsibly with women, not to abuse their sexual power and so forth. aside from these conservative christians, who's trying to teach women to deal with their power responsibly? is there ever a 'when a man says no he means no' campaign?

You are right, issues such as this one are not talked about enough... and I suspect won't be taken seriously for some time... if at all.

I'm not quite sure I agree with the way you have framed the positive aspects of the conservative viewpoint, but I'll wait for chris' further comments so that I can disagree with him as well.
