I found this (a few months' old) article via [livejournal.com profile] kishnevi's wordpress blog.

Kindergarten teacher has class 'vote out' five year old boy with severe Aspergers syndrome. A more detailed account of the classroom trial can be found here.

In WHAT universe is this a good idea, pray tell?

I can remember hearing about that story at the time, and my immediate thought was that the teacher needs to be sent back to teaching-school for reprogramming. Or just plain out fired - anyone who inflicts that on a five year old - Asperger's or not - has no business teaching children. Kids are nasty enough as it is, without some teacher validating that sort of bad behaviour and teaching them it's okay to victimise other people.

Heaven help any teacher that ever does anything like that to Eduardo. Aside from the fact I'm super-protective and constantly feel the need to compensate for the fact that I'm a single-parent, I also have a ferocious temper. I'd have been at that school completely belittling her brain-power and capacity to teach kids, and finished up with a quick jab to her eyeballs with the craft scissors just to punctuate my point.

Have you made any progress with all the Anzamems stuff??

My sister lives in Florida, I sent this as evidence why she should leave that wretched state.
