Strange the changes that occur
when you no longer love
the one you loved.
Their body shifts back
to a body with its bits
of skin that are pale
bits that have hair
their feet
and underpants
which are faded
and the elastic too tight
or too loose
and the sock line
biting into the ankle.
And you won't be able to remember
the panicked longing to reach out
and touch them.
