CAN HAS INTERNETS

the iiNet set-up CD is nigh impossible to understand, but once we got the VOIP configured the nice man from iiNet called me back and sent me to a website which set it all up in seconds.

Mine is a very geeky wireless network. It is called the Palantir.

OK, halp

I bought a BoB - apparently the best ADSL2 modem available in australia (erg probably shitty by everyone else's standards). It's SEXY. It's shiny and black and it loves me.

It does not love [personal profile] kayloulee. So: I did the set-up, I connected a LAN cable and set the security and so on. My computer, all the way on the far side of the room, has full wireless reception and no hiccoughs about connecting.

Kylee's, right next to the modem, is getting 3/5 bars of reception (it's no better over here, we tried). It says the modem or router is unavailable or faulty, and it won't bring up any pages. My usual methods of dealing with this (disconnect and try again; restart modem; etc) aren't helping.

BoB is an n-standard wireless router - apparently a new shiny standard so new and shiny it hasn't been codified by the people who codify these things.

O Wise internets - is it possible that BoB is too awesome for K's wireless card?

Anyone have any other suggestions for how to fix this problem?

Not only is there no discernible reason why K's computer won't talk to my modem (BoB's an n-standard but should be compatible with g, apparently), but just now I made Sjazz a birthday cake AND IT SANK.

King and No King - William Butler Yeats

WOULD it were anything but merely voice!'
The No King cried who after that was King,
Because he had not heard of anything
That balanced with a word is more than noise;
Yet Old Romance being kind, let him prevail
Somewhere or somehow that I have forgot,
Though he'd but cannon - Whereas we that had thought
To have lit upon as clean and sweet a tale
Have been defeated by that pledge you gave
In momentary anger long ago;
And I that have not your faith, how shall I know
That in the blinding light beyond the grave
We'll find so good a thing as that we have lost?
The hourly kindness, the day's common speech.
The habitual content of each with each
Men neither soul nor body has been crossed.
