The temperature is 9 degrees celcius, the apparent temperature... is not showing on the BOM site for Canberra right now but in Tuggeranong it is 3.2, so here it may be anything between 3.2 and 9 degrees, I guess. Yesterday the apparent temp. got down to -0.7.

IT IS NOT EVEN WINTER YET. WTF?

Ok, facts: I went out last night in tights, knee-high socks, mid-calf boots, jeans, a singlet, a long-sleeve top, a jumper, a jacket (mid-thigh), gloves and a hat. My torso was warm but my legs froze.
People who actually live in cold climates: what do you wear on your legs? Because I have to walk to work at 8am every morning in winter, and I do not want to endure horrible stinging pain every morning when I get to work and my completely-numb legs encounter the building's heating system.

Right. Now I'm going to go and try to cook things, because that might warm up the house (even though by the Rules of Canberra I'm allowed to turn the heater on now, as it's past Anzac day, I don't really HAVE to. It's only Cold inside, not OMGYOUBASTARDFREEZINGCOLD).

I bought a snug knitted beanie in the supermarked for four dollars. This solves one of my immediate problems, the fact that my strange grey beanie/beret thing which I bought for twenty dollars is a loose knit and therefore does not keep my ears warm.

Also, it is ten degrees out and I did not wear gloves and my hands did not hurt. This suggests I am adjusting, since in early march when it was 10-16 degrees in the morning, I'd get to work and my hands would be so stiff it hurt to type. Actually, on reflection, the temperature in the mornings has been getting colder, my gloves have not been getting any thicker in the last two months (yes, I started wearing gloves outside in MARCH), and my hands have been progressively less and less stiff. Praps all the walking is improving my circulation?

I am making Arthurian fudge cookies. Ok, they're only Arthurian because of the company who owns the website. But I CARE NOT. Also, they're warming up my house a bit.

I had an old friend from uni over and we ate scones and biscuits and now I'm full of scone. And we talked 19th century literature until our ears fell off, whereupon I went to her place (she lives in the same block) and borrowed some books - neither of them 19th century. Mary Woolstonecroft and Seamus Heaney, in fact.

Lucy monster: she strongly recommended Elizabeth Kostova's The Historian, which looks a) good and b) rather more your kind of thing than mine. Not strictly gothic, but it has Dracula in it... (Um, the wiki article has spoilers in it)

Please, Sydney people, keep bitching about how cold it is, and how you have your heaters on and your fingers are freezing. Please, keep talking. It makes me feel so much better about myself and my minimal cold-tolerance, what with the fact that it's eight degrees colder here and I only just turned the heater on two hours ago. It's on low. MWAHAHAH.

In other news, morning showers are now out, lest my hair freeze on my head. So let's see if I can even manage to wake up in the mornings from hereon in...

(Huh. I just checked the Sydney and surrounds data... looks like it's pretty bloody cold at home right now. Under ten degrees at Williamtown. I can't remember if it's usually colder at the base than at home. It's hotter in summer... Also, my parents have a FIRE. And I do not. No sympathy for them!)
