What Are You Reading Wednesday
Dec. 12th, 2018 04:32 pmStill haven't finished much, but I have at least started some new things;
Currently Reading:
James Baldwin, Giovanni's Room - I like it a lot but keep shying away from Impeding Doom Or Mortal Embarrassment
Liz Trenow, The Dressmaker of Draper Street - has finally got me interested in its core plot, but I'm not super impressed with it has historical fiction craft
Jamie O'Neill, At Swim Two Boys - making slow progress again
Victoria Blud, The Unspeakable, Gender and Sexuality in Medieval Europe - good, interesting, right up my alley but with a surprising amount of metaphysics in it
Meanjin 77.3 - 77.4 is out so i finally propelled myself to start reading 77.3. Mixed bag so far.
Recently finished:
Erica Ridley, Wish Upon a Duke - full review to come but essentially, this is a book for someone who is not me.
Up Next: I've at least /downloaded/ Ana Mardoll's 'No Man Born of Woman'. Maybe I will read it soon!
Other media: I've been listening to and loving The Penumbra Podcast. I binge-listened all the Juno episodes in s2, and am now going back for Second Citadel, and loving that too. I just. I have no words for how good this show is, you should all consider it.
I liked You Pretend Like You've Never Met Me, and I'll Pretend Like I Never Met You, at Lightspeed Magazine. Sample opening sentence: "The worst day of Wells the Magician’s life begins pleasantly enough, with a shot of whiskey at the Lost Kingdom bar."
Music notes: I realised that the song 'Bitch' isn't by Alanis Morisette, and I bought the relevant Meredith Brooks albumn, and lo, it was a good choice.
