Highly, getting old men arrested.
Sep. 10th, 2007 11:45 amCustomer, to me yesterday: How has it been with APEC?
Me: not too bad. Not many people, but we've been keeping ourselves busy *waves cleaning rag*. Apparently they had this whole section of George St closed down yesterday, though.
Customer: Are there still closed off areas?
Me: Yes, down toward the other end of Hyde Park.
Customer: Oh, would they have some fences and everything?
Me: Yeah, I guess.
Customer: Wow! I'll have to go and take some photos!
Another customer tried to engage me in conversation about the security measures- he reckoned he had been to plenty of APEC meetings and had never seen such an overdone security response. I found myself chivvying him on with the minimum of conversation. I thought about it afterwards, and tried to believe it was because it's inappropriate to discuss politics on the job, and had nothing to do with the feeling of being watched in my own city.
