highlyeccentricCatchment getting some rain, and the rest of us getting miserable weather
oh, craperoo... Major coal ship aground in the swimming area of Nobby's Beach
ed- since i posted that, the article has been revised twice to say it's now 20m offshore, leaking, likely to break up; and that two other ships are careering around on the loose and expected to come aground. The first revision said one was likely to ground on Stockton Beach (that's on the port stephens side of the river) but now it's just saying 'in newcastle'. Third page of this version says there's sixty ships out there, and more accidents waiting to happen as conditions prevent them entering the port.

more craperoo: elderly couple missing, washed off bridge in Clarencetown. Helicopters diverted from tankers to search for them
ed again: turning into an old lady, i'm listening to ABC newcastle's online stream.
One of the three ships at risk is now in deep water; the Pasha Baulker crew have been rescued and a salvage crew are waiting for a chance to go aboard; meanwhile attempts to tug the Sea Confidence away from Stockton Bight have failed and the anchors are tangled.
Hmmm... trying to find a link to something describing the Sigma wreck- now a rusting hulk on Stockton Bight. But i guess it was in the pre-internet era and no one much cares anymore.

rang mum and told her to go home- Port Corp. are saying the eye of the storm is passing and things are only going to get worse, and the ABC reeled off a list of closed roads including several on her way home.
She says there were trees down on our street this morning, and Dad was going to take his chainsaw up the road after work to clear them. He could be doing that now, or the lines could be down, because she can't contact him on the mobile or at home, and meanwhile Joel's stranded at Salamander after soccer training got cancelled.
