Recipe time!

Great-Grandmother's Punch

This was my great-grandmother's punch recipe. It is, without a doubt, the best punch ever.

Ingredients
1 and 1/2 cups of cold black tea
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup lemon juice
Approx. 1 litre of pine orange juice or similar juice
1 bottle of lemonade
1 bottle of ginger ale
1 tin of fruit salad

Pour the ingredients in italics into a saucepan, mix well and bring to boil.
Pour this into the bottom of the punch bowl. Add all the ingredients not in italics. Feel smug.

If you are too lazy to do the boiling business, I found it worked fine if you omit the sugar and lemon juice and just tip cold tea in.

...and then you add white rum, right? (Eyeballing the recipe, I would say coconut rum would go nicely.)

WHAT ME ALCOHOLIC NO.

If you WANT... I've had it with champagne, once, and I think vodka on another occasion: neither of these improved it one whit.

For me, the purpose of punch is to get you very slowly, lightly drunk while lounging around outside in the summer.

For me, the purpose of punch is to taste exactly like this one, and if it does not, I will be disappointed.

My mum used to make her punch just using the ingredients that weren't in italics ... I know it was from a really old recipe book (perhaps a bunch of clippings from her own mother?) and now I'm wondering if perhaps the top half of the recipe was missing or something!

I think the ingredients not in italics are fairly standard for punch... Not sure where Nanna Vi got the whole thing from, I copied it by hand from my mum's recipe book and she copied it from Nanna Vi's... *shrug*. The cold tea mixture really does make a difference, though: gives it a lovely dark tang.

But tea is icky...

You can't TASTE it, it just acts to give the punch a nice tang.
