I love my Wife...

this series of emails just now:

Wife: how do you spell wordhoard (wordhorde?)
me: wordhoard
as in, treasury of words, rather than rampaging barbarian words
Wife: AHAHA I like the idea of rampaging barbarian words!
COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!! I think that's a neologism to your credit, my
girl!
Wife: No, seriously, a group of words which are evil and invading a
language. Like the vocab of corporate-speak would be a wordhorde. Or
Americanisms. Or indeed the use of tastic.
Wordhorde.
I LIKE it.

Word-hoard, actually - it's hyphenated because it traces back to an Old English kenning :)

There's a brutal English-based wordhorde invading and attacking the Czech language AS WE SPEAK. Mum and Dad were horrified by some of the things they were hearing on their last visit! These barbaric words slay innocent traditional Czech words, then dress in their attire and run amuck, masquerading as proper Czech!

and what are the Czech doing about this, i ask? are they standing by as their words are slaughtered? have they a pretty but impotent Language Police, like the French?
