Which is from Sweet's Anglo-Saxon Reader. Specifically from The Battle of Maldon. no, i don't know what it means and i can't be bothered translating.

Well, any book that's titled "Australian Accounting Standards" isn't exactly promising a fun-filled afternoon.

conceded.

could be worse. i've been known to spend evenings with the "concordance to the anglo-saxon poetic records"... which is basically just lists.

Nah, dude. Your kung fu is way better 'n mine. Translating a single verse of Old English is a mere bagatelle. Maintaining a blog about medievalism, life, &c. what people read is real magicks.

i'm continually surprised to find people do read it... i keep slipping back into the habit of thinking this is just my excuse for procrastination, and then the likes of you turn up out of the blue.

In the case of Siam, Chulalongkorn's twenty-seven brothers in fact have been seen as the only reliable group of 'modernizers' in the kingdom, because most of the aristocracy did not attempt to obtain a Western education.

From Frank Tipton's The Rise of Asia, which I have to read for Asian History.

I think so too. Fortunately, that section of the book I quoted is not one of the bits I need to read. Korean, Chinese, Japanese and Indonesian politicking is enough for me!

"In a world of victims, he wrote, there are no innocents." (possibly the least interesting sentence on the page, sadly)
