Never become a medievalist

what about sifting through 561 examples of the word 'grund', and through a list of several thousand OE texts, and ticking off where the two lists coincide, and then being expected to make intelligent assumptions about the textual contexts of the word 'grund' is supposed to be fun? or normal in any way?????

i wonder if anyone else in the class actually did this??? if, heaven forbid, they did *more*? perhaps they translated examples, as i started off trying to do and gave up?

my brain it pains now.

although i did figure out how we know so much about OE vocab, despite comparitively few texts- latin-OE dictionaries produced right throughout the period.

i would be happy if i never had to look at grund again. no, no, no more grund.
The inestimable Stuart Thomson gave me a suggestion for an honours thesis the other day- to do with discipleship and world order in AElfric's homilies. i think i'll start looking at things in that sort of area.

i like her songs, a lot. i just can't stand it when she sings them!

i also like it when she sings other people's songs- as in her cameo on 'She Will Have Her Way'. it just seems to be the combination between Missy Higgins and her own songs which drives me around the bend.

lol. I don't think I've ever heard of someone liking an artist's performative skills/character and songs, but only seperately.

i think it's just something about the slightly nasal way she sings her own songs that gets to me.

and you don't think she sings other people's songs the way she does her own?

her voice isn't as irritating, not sure why...
