Single from Alan Doyle's forthcoming album 'A Week at the Warehouse'. I don't know why but I hadn't listened to any of his solo / Beautiful Gypsies stuff*, and I've just discovered it and it MIGHT reconcile me to the break-up of GBS.

*Well. Maybe the TERRIBLE BAND NAME. No points, Alan.

Oooh, this is pleasing! I may also need to explore Alan Doyle's solo stuff!

I'll have to further investigate Fortune's Favor too, maybe! A survey of my iTunes library suggests that the only songs I've downloaded are "England" and "The Banks of Newfoundland." I have historically not much liked GBS's original stuff as opposed to their folk song arrangements but it may be time to revisit.

I'm currently wracking my brain trying to figure out which other country song this reminds me of (especially the first stanza or two). When I first played it I thought I must have heard it on the radio the last time I was back in Vernon, but it seems like it hadn't been released yet last winter.

I bet it's going to be on the radio a lot this summer/fall though (OMG, I'm going to be in BC in the fall, what is this even), because catchy Canadian song plus CanCon laws...

Oh wow, gross sobbing emoji. As I learned during my family's trip to Newfoundland in 2000, you don't have to scratch the surface very much to find Newfoundlanders regretting Canadian confederation in 1949.

Also general brain-drain metaphors, and also my current opposite situation that's still a little like "I'll be Canadian!"

Feeeeeeeels!

*looks at band name* OH, ALAN.

Still, I did love GBS
